About Stenegården
Stenegården stands by Skomsvollsjøen on the south side of Otterøya — a quiet stretch of the Namsen fjord, which runs from the mouth of the river Namsen out to the open sea at Folla.
The buildings date from the 1850s. Stenegården was a trading post in those days — a substantial trading business with steam cargo boats calling in, alongside the farming.
The farm came into the Stene family early in the 1900s, and the third and fourth generations run it today. The farmland is leased out, and so is kept in good order.
The white house, the main house, has kept its shape through all those years, and a complete renovation in 2012 should see it through another hundred. The red house was built new in 2020, replacing a long barn that had reached the end of its life. Both stand on the top of a low rise, close to the sea, the forest and the hills. Deer are common here, and you will often see them from the yard or along the edge of the forest nearby.
Four apartments, two houses
We let two apartments on the upper floor of each house — four in all, from 40 to 55 square metres, each laid out and furnished as a small, comfortable home. Fresh air on the balconies, in the large garden around the houses, or down by the shore.
On the water
The bay below the houses is sheltered and shallow along the shore. The rowing boat and the two sea kayaks are free for guests to use. They are shared between the four apartments, so tell us before you set out and we will coordinate.
Cod, saithe, mackerel, trout and salmon. The island also has several small lakes with freshwater fishing.
The shoreline below the houses is long and shallow. At low tide the water stays shallow a good way out, which suits the smallest children; at high tide it is deep enough to swim properly straight from shore.
Five minutes on foot — milk, bread and everything else an ordinary day needs.

Most of our guests book through Booking.com, and that is where you will find current prices and availability. Writing to us directly works just as well — we answer every email ourselves. There is no minimum stay.
