About Stenegården

Three generations on the same farm

Stenegården stands at Skomsvoll on Otterøya, a quiet stretch of coast on the edge of Namsos. The main house was built in 1892 and has been in the same family for three generations. Milda, who runs the place, was born and raised here. We let four apartments, all year round, from a single night to a longer stay.

The houses sit on the crown of the hill. The windows face the sea on one side and the mountains on the other, and the summer evenings up here are long. Inside, everything is modern and comfortable; the view is the one thing we left exactly as it was.

The island shop is five minutes on foot. Namsos — restaurants, shops, museums — is a short drive across the bridge. In between it is mostly water, forest and hill.

On the water

A rowing boat, two sea kayaks, and the shore below the houses

The bay below the houses is sheltered and shallow along the shore. The rowing boat, the two sea kayaks and the fishing gear are free for guests to use. They are shared between the four apartments, so tell us before you set out and we will coordinate.

Fishing, gear to borrow

Cod, saithe, mackerel, trout and salmon. The island also has several small lakes with freshwater fishing. Rods and some tackle to borrow.

Swimming from the shore

The shore below the houses is long and shallow — shallow enough at the water’s edge for small children.

The island shop, 5 minutes away

Five minutes on foot — milk, bread, and whatever you forgot to pack.

Namsos in 20 minutes

Shops, restaurants, the cinema and the Rock City museum — a short drive across the bridge. visitnamdalen.com lists what else is on in the region.
